As some of you may know, my daughters and I are always trying to give back to the community we love so much. As part of our efforts, we successfully introduced the Little Free Library movement to the Orlando area. Little Free Library is an international campaign that promotes free book exchanges. The idea is to place small containers where anyone may stop by and pick up a book (or two) and bring back another book to share.
So far, we have placed six libraries in parks and other public areas including the very first one, shown below, dedicated to the memory of our beloved golden retriever Brandon. It is located at Lake Baldwin Park, in the Winter Park-Orlando, Florida area.
Other libraries were placed in Phelps Park, Baldwin Park, Dinky Dock Park, Dandelion Communitea Cafe and a private residence in Orlando. For more information, please check out our Facebook page.
Inspired by our success with this project, we have now turned our attention to another project that is also dear to our hearts: Lantern Floating Memorials for beloved animal companions. Our first event, The Winter Park Canine Memorial was held at Lake Baldwin, on July 27th, 2013. The response to this much needed gathering was so great it has now become very anticipated annual event. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
